About Casa Del Arroyo

Casa Del Arroyo is situated in "Gringo Gulch" (part of the Colonia El Centro). Everything is within walking distance, yet far enough from the tourist crowd to be in a relatively quiet area.  You can hear the Cuale River as well as the bells from the Parish of Our Lady of Guadalupe nearby. Tripadvisor ranks the home as 100 out of 100 for walkers, with 130 restaurants, beaches, and 62 attractions within 0.3 miles. It is a 2 minute walk to Elizabeth Taylor's former house, Casa Kimberly which is now an upscale boutique hotel including the well known Iguana Restaurant & Tequila Bar

Neighborhood & Historical Significance

The "Gringo Gulch" neighborhood is a mix of Mexican locals and ex-pats, streets are still made of cobblestone, and everyone greets one another. The house itself was one of the first built in this area by Puerto Vallarta’s famous architect Guillermo Wulff sometime around 1960, at the start of Vallarta becoming the new "it" getaway spot for those looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of life north of the border. As Guillermo Wulff also built Casa Kimberly, Casa Del Arroyo is as close an example as you can find of what Elizabeth Taylor’s house looked like circa 1963.

Traditional Architecture with Modern Practicality

With its traditional Mexican and colonial architecture, the residence offers an open design concept. After ascending the grand entrance, you’ll be greeted by a large living and dining area with polished cement floors, exposed wood beam ceilings, and multiple doors and windows for maximum light and enjoyment of the jungle hillside breezes.  This area has flexibility in its furniture arrangement to provide a space for workouts or a space for creativity, collaboration, and connection.

Blending Indoor & Outdoor Living

Adjacent to the living area on the first level you will find a fully equipped kitchen overlooking the open-air, center courtyard framed by the exposed rock wall and its traditional cantera stone fountain. Fresh air is abundant in this space.  Downpours during the summer rainy season create a unique ambiance as you feel connected to nature, while at the same time protected from the elements.

For guest convenience, there is a "powder room" on this level with beautifully hand painted tiles.

Mountain, River, & City Views from the Terrace

The second floor is also equipped with an outdoor kitchen & bar with colorful mosaic tiles ideal for barbecuing and reunions. Next to the heated and a small, raised dipping pool, there is an outdoor shower and a large 1400 square foot partially covered terrace, where you can rest during the sunny days and warm nights to enjoy the beautiful panoramic views of Puerto Vallarta.

Second Floor Bedrooms

The second floor also offers two king sized en-suite bedrooms with accents such as Mexican tile work, ceramic and marble sinks, tumbled marble and transom primavera wood windows. Air conditioning, primavera wood doors and screens are installed for climate efficiency. These bedrooms are most ideal for convenience.

Third Floor Bedrooms

On the top floor there are two additional bedrooms with high ceilings and panoramic views.  These rooms are best for those who desire a little more privacy, but are willing to go up and down more stairs.

The first is a king sized en-suite bedroom with steps that go directly down to the second floor pool.

The second is a master king sized en-suite bedroom with an option for a  pull out queen sized sofa bed and/or inflatable queen bed if you're maximizing your budget (though availability may vary).  The master bedroom has its own private terrace, with a bathroom featuring a double-head shower and bathtub.

Accommodations during your event

Individual rooms of this 4 BR, 4.5 bath and over 5100 sq feet of living space can be rented just prior to or after an organized event/retreat at a special rate based on availability if it is not already bundled with your scheduled event.

If you're looking for more simple & rustic accommodations with spectacular bay & city views (and are physically fit), inquire about our nearby home, Casa Vista Luna, which is just an 8 minute walk up the hill on the opposite edge of Gringo Gulch.

Casa del Arroyo is also conveniently located near boutique hotels in and around El Centro and the Romantic Zone that are all within an easy 10-15 minute walking distance.

Note that the actual "Hotel Zone" is a 15-20 minute drive north.
